The Engelbart ecological ditch, shortened to EcoDitch, combines conventional Chinese engineering principles with proprietary German technology to treat wastewater and accelerate ecological restoration.
The EcoDitch system is generally made up of two sections: a circulating biochemical ditch, followed by an ecological algal pond. The ponds are built using soil cement or simple anti-seepage construction. The entire system uses only two 200W fans to treat about 150m3/d. Fish thrive in the non-toxic effluent and the overflow water is used for agricultural irrigation. Using proprietary BioMat aeration technology and an airlift device, the Ecoditch is able to achieve very high processing efficiencies with low energy consumption. The system runs well with minimal maintenance.
