  • 1966: Wilke Engelbart began developing low-cost systems for wastewater treatment together with his uncle, Fritz Engelbart, a leading engineer and plant operator of WWTP’s in Germany. They first applied their aeration technology in linear aeration ponds and fixed biofilm systems.

    1971: Patent for continuous ethanol fermentation process.

    1972: Invitation by the IAWPR Conferenced in Israel for podiums-discussion on low-cost watewater treatment. Starting research on algae-fermentation as a safe 4th treatment stage for wastewater treatment.

    1976 – 1979: Presentation of closed loop fermentation technologies on international conferences, so invitation by Volkswagen AG to participate in its Brazilian bio-ethanol fuel projects.

    1979: Self-employment and founding of Engelbart Biologische Verfahren.

    1981: Began testing and development of long aeration hoses  for fish breeding applications

    1986: Patents in Europe, China and other countries for the BioDopp aeration system;

    1989: Established fish breeding facilities in Ningbo, Yingkou, Shekou, Dalian using the specially designed aeration system.

    1999: Founded Engelbart Biologische Verfahren GmbH (EBV);

    1999: First industrial scale BioDopp used in Germany to treat highly loaded nitrogen wastewater from a sewage treatment plant in Germany.

    2003: BioDopp process was applied to the Shanghai Peony Ink Factory WWTP renovation project and was successful in reducing the non-digestible chemical compounds.

    Since 2003: The BioDopp process has been applied in many sewage and industrial WWTP’s in China. Continuous research and improvements were made according to the special treatment needs of China.

    2013: Aeration equipment  is used for rural point source sewage treatment and river water quality improvement and gains traction in China;

    2015: Aeration equipment is combined with ancient Chinese pond systems for treating rural and fish-farm wastewaters according to local environmental standards .

    2016: EBV launches the Engelbart AB process after successfully applying BioDopp to several pig farms in Hangzhou
